During Year 1, students explore the world around them. In
Science, they explore living things, how light and sound are produced, how we
can make physical changes to materials and changes we can see in the sky. In
English, they explore how authors portray characters and innovate on familiar
texts with repetitive patterns,we write to convey messages and information and share stories and experiences, as well as learning how to write responses to texts and events, procedures and retells of familiar stories. They also develop their
bank of sight words. In Maths, students work with numbers to at least 100. They
begin to learn their addition and subtraction facts, using concrete materials and thinking strategies. Year 1 students will study Digital Technologies in Semester 1, with our Digital Technology Coach and their class teacher.
