SOL canteen is operated by the school as a service to the families of Humpybong State School. The canteen is currently open three days a week – Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and provides a variety of reasonably priced, nutritious food and drinks, many of which are prepared on site.
The SOL Canteen menu follows the guidelines and is compliant with the Smart Choices Healthy Food and Drink Strategy for Queensland Schools. This strategy is all about offering healthy food and drink choices to the students. Smart Choices is an initiative of the Queensland Government to promote healthy eating and improve children and young peoples health through better nutrition.
All foods are categorised into Green, Amber or Red groups.
Green = have plenty. These foods are encourage and promoted in schools
Amber = select carefully. These foods and drinks should not dominate choices and should be avoided in large serves.
Red = occasional. The availability of these foods and drinks should be limited to no more than two occasions per term.
