Year 4

In Year 4, students are exploring observable changes. In History, they are looking at the changes to Australia brought about by colonisation, while in Science, they explore changes in lifecycles, changes to the Earth’s surface and changes caused by forces. In English, students develop their writing skills to write a traditional tale, informative report about a convict, persuasive text and book report, while in Maths, students work with numbers to tens of thousands.
Year 4 students will study Digital Technologies in Terms 1 and 2, with our Digital Technology Coach and their class teacher.
During Term 2, students will engage with a New Pedagogies for Deep Learning (NPDL) unit, where they will explore how knowledge of forces can be used to support Goal 1 from the UN's Goals for Sustainability: Ending Poverty.
The planned excursion program for Year 4 includes a visit to Osprey House in Term 1 to learn about the biodiversity and relationships between living things in our local Mangrove  environment, and a visit by Living History to bring the First Fleet to life. In Term 3, students will visit Ngautana Lui to learn about traditional Indigenous culture, while during Term 4, students take part in our Learn-to-swim program at the Redcliffe City Pool as well as visit Scott's Point for a Science Field Trip. More information about all these activities will be provided closer to the date.
The 2018 Year 4 curriculum documents are available for you to access. These include parent newsletters, information about excursions and parent information sessions, as well as English assessment tasks.
