Year 3

 
In Year 3, students begin to explore ‘Our Place’. In Geography, they learn about the states and territories in Australia, and where Australia is in our global neighbourhood, while in Science, they learn about Earth’s place within our solar system. In English, students build on their early writing skills as they to begin to write in more formal genres, exploring fables, persuasive texts, informative texts, poetry and explore how to use language to write about ideas in books. In Maths, students begin to work with numbers to 10 000.n Year 3, students begin to explore ‘Our Place’. In Geography, they learn about the states and territories in Australia, and where Australia is in our global neighbourhood, while in Science, they learn about Earth’s place within our solar system.
Year 3 students will study Digital Technologies in Term 3, with our Digital Technology Coach and their class teacher.
During Year 3, students also take part in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). In 2016, this will take place between May 10th – May 12th.
The planned excursion program for Year 3 includes a visit by Currumbin Wildlife on Wheels in Term 1 to learn about the features of living things, while in Term 2, students will take part in an Out of the Box workshop here at school. In Term 2, students will visit the Queensland Museum/GoMA (Gallery of Modern Art) to investigate different representations of Visual Arts, while in Term 4, Starlab will bring their Skydome to school. During Term 4, students will also visit the Redcliffe Museum to learn about changes to our community over time, as well as take part in our Learn-to-swim program at the Redcliffe City Pool. More information about all these activities will be provided closer to the date.
