Year 1

During Year 1, students explore the world around them. In Science, they explore living things, how light and sound are produced, how we can make physical changes to materials and changes we can see in the sky. In English, they explore how authors portray characters and innovate on familiar texts with repetitive patterns, as well as learning how to write poems, recounts, procedures and retells of familiar stories. They also develop their bank of sight words. In Maths, students work with numbers to at least 100. They begin to learn their addition and subtraction facts.
Year 1 students will study Digital Technologies in Semester 1, with our Digital Technology Coach and their class teacher.
In Term 2, Year 1 will engage with a New Pedagogies for Deep Learning unit (NPDL), explring how they can care for living things around them.
During 2018, our Year 1 students will take part in a number of special events, including the Easter Bonnet Parade, Early Years Celebration and Grandfriends’ Day, as well as taking part in whole school events such as the Spell-a-thon, Art Show, Find the H.U.M.P and the  H factor.
